Stepping Into A Bold New Future Together

Late last fall, following our Visioning Retreat, I outlined some of the prominent themes which emerged from our work together. And then, almost immediately, the holiday season was upon us and the visioning process was temporarily placed on the back burner. Now the holidays are behind us, the new year is before us, and it is time to bring the visioning work back into our awareness. In particular I want to lift up two of the goals, and invite you to give careful and prayerful consideration to the ways in which God might be calling you to get involved in implementing these goals in the life of our congregation.
The first goal I offer for your consideration is providing opportunities for hands-on ministries beyond our walls. This will find expression through ministries with which we are already involved, as well as through new opportunities as we become aware of them. Active faithful living is not a spectator sport. It means finding ways to step up and get our hands dirty. Maybe it will involve becoming more actively involved with Food Share or God's Love. Maybe it will mean re-activating our involvement with Family Promise. We might choose to partner with another congregation in town (such as the Unitarian Universalists who share our worship space) as we seek ways to reach out beyond our walls to touch the world with God's grace. Regardless of the specifics, such an expansion of our ministry will require that we focus our energy and organize our efforts. If you would be interested in serving on an Outreach Ministry Task Force to address this need, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

The second goal I offer for your consideration is providing ways for us to become a congregation where children, youth, and young adults are vital and vibrant participants in the life of the congregation. This will require creativity and commitment. It will not happen overnight, but it most definitely is possible. If you would be interested in serving on a Children, Youth, and Young Adult Task Force to address this need, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

With both goals, even if you do not feel called to serve on a Task Force I would be delighted to hear any thoughts and ideas you might have. And please keep our congregation in your prayers as we move into this bold new future together.
